Giant cyclamen plants that reproduce likenesses of anything they are fed devour a vital fuel supply and create a duplicate Judy.
Don West rushes in to help John out of the bog, but he too gets caught. Smith wanders back to the Jupiter 2 and casually mentions to Will that his father needs rope at the drilling site. Will goes off with the rope and rescues his father and Don. Back at the Jupiter 2, while Don orders Smith to leave, John explains that they will need only three more canisters of deutronium to get them off the planet.
The next day Don teasingly states they will probably have to leave Smith behind, not having enough fuel to carry his weight. Horrified, Smith takes Will to his campsite and shows him cyclamen plants that have duplicated some of his personal belongings. Claiming that he can make all the fuel they need, he tricks Will into relinquishing the real deutronium, but Don reassures everyone that they were able to
squeeze one last canister from the now depleted vein.
Hearing this, Smith rushes in to suggest that the canister he holds will then provide enough fuel to carry him as well. John "agrees to the possibility. But Smith discovers that the plants have drained the fuel and have , grown very large, deutronium apparently being their food. Judy feels sorry for Smith and searches for his camp. Smith watches as she is entranced by one of the plants, then he returns to the others to propose that he will reveal Judy's location only after he and Don are headed back to Earth.
But Judy returns, bearing a strange, glazed countenance. That night, she makes off with all the remaining deutronium and takes it to feed her cyclamen masters. Smith, realizing that she is one of them, cajoles her into giving him two of the canisters. The next : morning, everyone awakens to discover gigantic cyclamen surrounding the ship. When Judy sabotages the Chariot's gun, John discovers that she is not the real Judy after all. They decide to freeze their way through the plants with CO2 extinguishers, and soon Smith leads them to the pod in which the real Judy is held captive.
Later, Dr. Smith, Will, Penny, the Robot and the Bloop discover an alien device which teleports Penny into oblivion.
