First Season Episodes - The Sky Pirate (episode 18)

A grizzled space pirate from Earth gives the Robinsons new hope of rescue.

As John and Don are examining a crashed spaceship, Will comes upon grizzled space pirate, Captain Tucker, and his metallic bird, Nik, who possesses unusual superpowers. Tucker visits the Jupiter 2 and commandeers supplies, taking Will as hostage. Tucker swears Will in blood to a pirate's oath, making him promise not to run away.

In the morning, the pair spot a torpedo-like object with a scanning eye stuck in the ground outside. Using Will as a decoy, Tucker manages to smash it. Tucker travels to the Jupiter 2 and lets it be known that he needs repairs and replacement parts for his spaceship. He will hold Will, he says, until they decide to supply him with what he needs. Smith is elected to carry word to him that the deal will be made.

Will is duly returned to his family -but he is a changed boy, swaggering and superior with his knowledge that he is now in the brotherhood of pirates. Tucker tells the others that he was kidnapped from Earth a century ago by specimen-gathering Tellurians and has spent many years in a time freezer .The men find that his spaceship is no ordinary craft but an interstellar vehicle capable of such speeds that it could get them back to Earth in minutes.

But Tucker has taken refuge in a cave fearful that aliens are after a musket-shaped object he took when he left Cygnet 4. A great, slithering mass begins to descend on the Jupiter 2, Will discovers the musket is a time forecaster, and it reveals that Smith is planning to steal the alien's spaceship and flee. With neither the force field nor the Robot capable of stopping the descending mass, Tucker rushes out with the forecaster, but slips and drops it. The mass takes the forecaster and recedes.

When Tucker prepares to go, he discourages Will's attachment to him by saying that he is no pirate at all. Then, he explains to Smith that his ship has no navigational system that will enable them to get to Earth.

Later, John is felled by poison gas seeping from a hole in the ground.
