Second Season Episodes - The Thief Of Outer Space (episode 38)

Will helps a thief find his long lost princess.

A futuristic Arab chieftain appears in a puff of smoke and offers Will and Dr.Smith a ruby ring. The ring bursts into a puff of smoke, and the Thief s slave appears, cornering Will and Smith. Claiming to be poor castaways, Smith and Will convince the Thief that there are no riches on the planet and escape to the Jupiter 2.

Later, Will finds an ornate chair that hurtles through space to the Thief's hideout, where the boy is put to work stoking a furnace. The Thief explains to Will that he is not interested in riches, but in finding the lovely princess who was stolen from him 200 years ago by the evil Vizier. The Thief s magic golden arrow qui vers in the direction of the Robinson planet, indicating a clue to her whereabouts. When the slave appears with Penny, the Thief recognizes her as a Robinson and lets Will deal with her .

Next, the Thief finds Smith, who has also been delivered in the chair, rummaging through his treasures. The Thief shows everyone a picture of the Princess in an old album, but no one recognizes her. Will says the reason that the arrow quivers is that Penny has a secret- she claims that her father has a map. The slave thinks he recognizes Smith as the evil Vizier, his former master, and releases him. Meanwhile, on the Robinsons' planet, Will plays along with the Thief and enters the Jupiter 2 as a stranger, with Penny as his hostage. He grabs an odd piece of scratch paper to use as a map and has Don hide nearby. Then he throws down one of the Thief's rings, and the Thief materializes.

A battle ensues until the slave and Smith, dressed as the evil Vizier, arrive, and Smith orders the slave on the Thief. Will throws a ring at the slave, causing him to vanish. As the Thief moves in on Smith, the arrow quivers towards Maureen's bottled flowers. When the thief touches the bottle with his sword, the princess appears. But she is 200 years old and weighs 200 pounds. The Thief throws a ring at her and she vanishes again. Then, returning Smith to his normal self, he blasts off the planet.

Bill Mumy Comments

I don't really have any special memories from this episode. I can say that Malachi Throne was one of my favorite guests. The chemistry between us was very good, and I enjoyed filming this episode. No funny tales to tell about this one, they all blended into one memory.

Jonathan Harris Comments

This is a very good episode. I remember Malachi Throne, who was a friend of mine, coming on the set the first day of shooting and greeting everyone with a warm hello. We had a beautiful set for the episode, and Malachi's costume was quite elaborate. We still, to this day, occasionally meet somewhere or another.

Ted Cassidy was a huge man with a deep voice, and he took his part quite seriously. I had a lot of fun shooting The Thief From Outer Space , and it turned out to be a goody.
