Penny and Will become involved in a bumbling knight's lifelong quest of battling a fire-breathing female beast.
While Dr. Smith and Will guard the atomic regulator, a bumbling knight, sagramonte of Antair, appears and challenges the Robot to battle. The Robot yields, and sagramonte takes Will and Smith as hostages for ransom. sagramonte teaches Will the art of chivalry while Smith tries to find the alien's spacecraft. But sagramonte explains that he has no spaceship -he was transported by enchantment. He has been hunting the Questing Beast, Gundemar , for forty years.
The Robot, meanwhile, has returned to the Jupiter 2 to report that Smith and Will have been captured by an alien. John Robinson and Don depart to search for them as sagramonte's Basking Hound shows up and leads Penny to Gundemar, who has suffered a spliced tail from sagramonte's sword. Penny finds that Gundemar, beneath her scales, is harmless. Detecting Will's loss of innocence, Smith confers with sagramonte, telling him he knows where Gundemar is,and that ifhewill defeat her, Will's original faith and enthusiasm might be restored. But Penny overhears Smith and goes to warn Gundemar.
The lady explains that she will not try to win the fight; she has a great affection for the bumbling Knight and will help him. As the Knight begins to battle the firebreathing monster in the cave, Penny rushes in crying out that Gundemar means him no harm. sagramonte is stunned to find that the Beast is a woman and that she has engineered the whole forty years' quest. She has not only teleported herself from planet to planet, but she has teleported sagramonte as well so that he could continue the quest. sagramonte is discouraged, but Penny nudges Gundemar who provokes the Knight to the chase. First Gundemar disappears, then sagramonte is gone.

There is a beautiful touching scene in this episode between Dr Smith and Will in which Smith tells Will "Don't be in a hurry to grow up too fast".
