Third Season Episodes - The Space Destructors (episode 65)

Jonathan Harris Comment

When I read the script, which called for a duplication of my head to be worn by many of the cast, I felt very uneasy about the process of making a mask of my face which would be cast in vinyl or plastic. I am extremely claustrophobic and I went to the make-up department in a state of frayed nerves.

John Chambers, a make-up genius and a dear man, was very kind and considerate as he placed straws up my nose, applied layers of Plaster of Paris on my face, all the while patting me, continuously cautioning me not to move! It was an agonizing experience for me, and it took forever it seemed.

These days, I believe the process is much simpler and quicker. Chambers was wonderful throughout - Finally, the damned plaster dried and he carefully removed it. I heaved a great sigh of relief and went back to the set to work.

I was gifted with one of the heads in a plastic case- it lasted about 4 years, then dried up and disintegrated.

Bill Mumy Comment

I remember that in the episode "Space Destructors" I had to go through a 4 hour process in which John Chambers was to make what they call a "death" mask out of Plaster of Paris. This required a lot of patience as you had to sit perfectly still in the makeup chair and not move.
