The Reluctant Stowaway - Angela Cartwright Memories
'The Reluctant Stowaway' was the first episode of Lost In Space - so everything was new and exciting.
To introduce Dr. Zachary Smith and have him become stranded with us they had to figure out how he would be a stowaway. In the pilot we had filmed there was no Dr. Smith character and they intercut his getting 'lost in space' with us into the pilot footage we had already shot. Oh, Dr. Smith was a devious character... not at all how he turned out in later episodes.
As a kid I remember having to stand very still in my freezing tube... creating the rocking and rolling as the Jupiter 2 went off course...and having to suffer through wearing those dreadful spacesuits. They were SO stiff and hot... but I loved it all. It was great fun.
